Second Thoughts?
This may be an alternative forum to the MFA list, but it is not a better one. The comments on the MFA list are certainly a lot more entertaining and, as Misty has just pointed out to me, the space for comments on this blog is limited to only 300 words, hardly room enough for healthy debate. People seemed to have appreciated the effort anyway. As for the comment from the anonymous emailer, I believe it has been well known for years now that RM and Hillary are on friendly terms and (as I read it) the NY Times reported that RM gave $2600 to Hillary, not Obama. As for the NY POST endorsement, how can one not take it as anything but a twisted lark that shows how deeply cynical the tabloid (like the Cheney/Bush administration which it REALLY supports) is about the democratic process? That said though, I do admit it is futile (at this stage) to find any candidate that hasn't sold out to one corporate interest or the other. I'm also thinking a lot about what people are saying about Clintons health care proposal--its the practical choice. It will get us coverage now. But my experience with the American health care system is that insurance does not in any way guarantee either coverage or peace of mind. I don't know? Cheers. Joshua.

i think Clinton and Obama are identical, victims of the political machine, and either would be fine because we don't really have anyone better to choose from. I'll take any democrat who can win, and i think we dont really know who that it. For those who really believe Barack is some unspoiled utopian choice, read this carefully and weep:http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/03/us/politics/03exelon.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=obama+nuclear&st=nyt&oref=slogin
Living abroad at the moment it is interesting to watch it all unfold from across the pond. I agree that I want a democrat who can win as the alternative is just too much to handle.
In regards to health care, after living for a year in London with the NHS, it is no easy task to figure out the right system, which is to say it needs to be done carefully. The NHS is awful, the care terrible, many misdiagnoses, and most people pay for private doctors anyway at high premiums. After spending time in France, I've see that system to be working better. As someone said, the president should be examining other
national health systems that do work in other countries to create one in the US.
Anonymous "I think Clinton and Obama are identical, victims of the political machine..." that's a rather cursory simplistic view of things. Everyone participating in politics from on a local to national level deals for better or for worse with "the political machine". Your link was truncated so it couldn't be reached, but presumably your reference (which should make Obama supporters "weep") is to his purchase of property and fund raising reciepts from the very corrupt business man Tony Rezko. Obama said himself it was a "boneheaded" move.
google "Obama on Rezko deal"
But it compares by no stretch to the Clinton duo shenanigans which over their career possibly includes contributions to homicide and suicide of public officials, and most recently purging a portion of their stock portfolio (after they made over a million dollars on them) which could present a conflict of interest with the platform Hillary is running on. That sort of thing is not happening with Obama at this stage of his running.
i didnt't post the original link, but its not truncated. just double click on the line and paste into a browser window, removing the "weep:"

uh, at the risk of sounding too harsh, this comment strikes me as more than a wee bit McCarthyistic. Can we see the inside of that envelope please?
Obama recently cosponsored legislation introduced int the senate to facilitate the building of a new generation of coal plants using the most dangerous method of coal liquefication called Fischer-Trpsh method. The bill is a subsidy to the coal industry and a blow to the citizens opposing mountaintop removal.
On the war, Obama voted to continue funding. I find his whole campaign to be spin.
both Obama and Clinton oppose gay marriage???
saying they spport civil unions-
Obama's feelings seem to be a bit stronger citing "his own religious beliefs"
No McCarthyism, just general public record for our convenience on the web, like everything else, written about in order to document.

There's more- a lot more - that we have forgotten, aren't old enough to have remembered, or simply were not or are not tuned in enough to take into consideration about the Clintons.
Barack and Hillary compare, but under closer scrutiny they are very different. They both might be fantastic people, parents, kids to their folks, lovers, etc. But we all make mistakes. In choosing between the two we compare what they've done to anticipate what they'll do. Dig deep.
yes, yes, I know all about whitewater. but I also know there are people out there that think the US never landed on the moon. I defy you to fine me even the slightest bit of credible evidence that the Clintons were involved in paying for suicides or murders.
Me thinks your tinfoil hat might be on a bit tight. :)
